Insurance & Out-of-Network

An Out-of-Network Practice

We do not bill insurance directly. If your plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, we provide a monthly superbill you can submit to your insurance. Many couples are reimbursed for a meaningful part of each session.

Questions to Ask Your Insurer

A quick call before you start tells you exactly what to expect:

  • Do I have out-of-network benefits for mental health?
  • What is my out-of-network deductible, and have I met it?
  • What is my reimbursement rate for out-of-network therapy for CPT code 90847 (couples sessions) and CPT code 90837 (individual sessions)?

Ways to Pay

Making Therapy More Affordable

A few partners that lower what you pay up front or take the insurance paperwork off your plate.

Check What Your Plan Would Cover

Mentaya files your out-of-network claims and handles the follow-up, for a 5% fee per claim. Enter your details below and they will estimate what you would be reimbursed per session. It takes about a minute, and your information goes to them rather than to us.

Other Ways to Lower What You Pay

Thrizer

Pay only your estimated portion up front, like a copay. Thrizer covers the rest of the session cost and handles reimbursement for you. A 5% service fee applies.

CareCredit

A health and wellness credit card with monthly payment options. Available at our Princeton location with a one or three month therapy package.

Common Questions

Billing & Insurance, Answered

Do you accept insurance?

We are an out-of-network practice, so we do not bill insurance directly. If your plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, we provide a monthly superbill you can submit for reimbursement.

How do out-of-network benefits work?

Call your insurer and ask whether you have out-of-network mental health benefits, what your deductible is, and your reimbursement rate. You pay for sessions, then submit our superbill to be reimbursed for a portion of the cost.

What is a superbill, and how do I use it?

A superbill is an itemized monthly invoice with everything your insurer needs. You submit it to your out-of-network benefits for reimbursement, or let Thrizer or Mentaya handle the claim for you.

Do you offer reduced-rate or sliding-scale sessions?

We keep a few appointments available at a reduced rate for couples who do not have out-of-network coverage. Ask us about current availability.

Is online therapy the same price as in person?

Yes. Online and in-person sessions are the same price, and we have seen couples make real progress either way.

Can I use HSA or FSA funds?

Many clients use HSA or FSA funds for couples therapy. Check with your plan administrator, and we are happy to provide any documentation you need.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask for advance notice if you need to cancel or reschedule, so we can offer the time to another couple. Your therapist will go over the specifics during your intake.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

If you do not use insurance, you have the right to a Good Faith Estimate of your expected costs before you begin. We are glad to provide one in writing on request, so you always know what to expect.
