Your Love Deserves Care That Sees All of You
Every relationship asks a lot of the two people in it. For LGBTQIA+ couples, the work of building a life together can come layered with extra weight: family that does not fully understand, a world that does not always feel safe, and questions about belonging that straight couples rarely have to carry. You deserve a place where none of that has to be explained or defended. Here, you can simply be a couple working on your relationship, supported by therapists who honor exactly who you are and who you love.
A Space That Gets It
When the Same Patterns Keep Circling
Our affirming therapists work with couples of every relationship structure. This work often helps when:
- The same conversations keep circling back without ever feeling resolved, and you are both tired of the loop.
- Coming out, being out, or staying private has become a tension between you rather than a shared decision.
- Family or holidays bring up old hurt, and you are not always sure your partner has your back.
- Talking about marriage, kids, or building a family together stirs up more fear than excitement.
- The weight of navigating a world that is not always affirming has started to land on your relationship.
- You love each other deeply, but lately closeness and intimacy feel harder to reach.

Understanding the Work
Affirming Support for the Whole of Your Relationship
We hold two truths at once: your relationship faces the same challenges any couple does, and it also carries pressures that are uniquely yours. Both are real, and both are welcome in this room.
A Supportive Space for the LGBTQIA+ Community
Couples Therapy Services warmly welcomes LGBTQ couples seeking support and understanding. We recognize the complexities of being in an LGBTQ relationship, and we acknowledge the unique challenges and societal pressures that come with it.
Navigating issues such as familial conflicts, societal expectations, and family planning can be challenging, but our therapists specialize in offering compassionate assistance. We are committed to creating a safe space for LGBTQ couples, where we address external constraints and provide valuable guidance so you can move forward positively.
Love Is Love
Being gay doesn't mean you experience different relationship pitfalls than straight couples face. Communication issues, boundary negotiations, intimacy difficulties, and triggering each other's past traumas are part of any relationship. Love is love. Marriage is marriage. A relationship between two people is just that.
Feel Seen, Heard, and Respected
Regardless of how you identify or the category your relationship fits into, our therapists want to get to know you and your story. All of our therapists have a wide range of expertise working with an array of individuals in different circumstances.
We're here to listen, empathize, understand, and ultimately help you and your loved one feel closer, more connected, and more stable and grounded than ever before. Whether a therapist is part of the LGBTQ community or not, they will get to know you as a couple and develop a plan that best meets your unique needs.

Common Questions
Questions About LGBTQIA+ Couples Therapy
Do our therapists need to be part of the LGBTQIA+ community themselves?
Not at all. Every therapist here is affirming and experienced in working with LGBTQIA+ couples, whether or not they are part of the community. What matters is that they get to know you as a couple and build a plan around your needs, with respect for who you are and who you love.
Is this therapy really different from couples therapy for straight couples?
The core work is the same. Communication, boundaries, intimacy, and healing old hurts show up in every relationship. The difference is that we also make space for the pressures queer couples face, like family acceptance, being out, and navigating a world that is not always affirming, so nothing about your experience gets overlooked.
Can we meet in person, or do you offer online sessions?
Both. We see couples in person at our Princeton and Manalapan offices, and we offer online sessions for couples anywhere in New Jersey. Many couples mix the two depending on their week, and we are happy to find the rhythm that works for you.
We are not married. Is couples therapy still for us?
Yes. We work with couples at every stage, whether you are dating, building a life together, engaged, or married. Your relationship does not need a label to be worth investing in.
What if we are not sure therapy can help us?
That is a completely normal place to start. Many couples come in unsure and find that having a caring, neutral guide makes hard conversations feel possible again. You do not have to have it all figured out before you reach out.

Ready When You Both Are
The couples who do best in counseling come in before they think they need to. Get matched to a therapist in two minutes, or reach out to book your first session, and we'll help you find the exact right person for you.
